Pasta Secrets Class

11:30 am – 1:30 pm

April 21, June 23

In these hands-on, 90-minute classes, you’ll learn:

PIZZA: proper heat, making great dough, shaping the pizza, different styles (and everything else you want to know about the world’s favorite food).

PASTA: how to make great dough, different types of pasta and pasta machines, cooking times and procedures, and recipes for dressing the perfected pasta.

Maximum 10 people per class, so make your reservation now. $50 per person plus tax and 18% service fee.

And if you need accommodations in Carmel (and a place to test those new recipes) consider “Bay Laurel,” a new, “old world” cottage with a gourmet kitchen, a Viking six burner range, a lovely outdoor patio and a Mediterranean garden.

Now, that’s amore.

You Will Get Wet and You Will Get Muddy

asset6486On March 26 at the Big Sur 2011 “Mud Run” – a five mile loop on roads and trails beginning and ending at Freeman Stadium on the Cal State University Monterey Bay campus.

This challenging course includes hills, water, obstacles, a tunnel crawl, five-foot wall, and four mud pits. Showers are provided at the finish, and there’s a free beer station along the way… talk about a “fun run!”

The race is limited to 1,000 individuals and 300 teams – participants can pre-register at http://www.bigsurmudrun.org/

Need a Place to Park Your Husband?

lWhile you shop Carmel’s amazing boutiques and galleries, that is?

A.W. Shucks, a great little oyster bar on Ocean Ave. at San Carlos, has everything he needs: a bountiful selection of beer, appetizers, seafood… and (do I really need to say this?) three televisions tuned into the latest sporting events.

Because, let’s face it, vacations can be stressful, and even the most loving couple needs time apart. This is the perfect arrangement: you go hunting and gathering to your heart’s content – while he relaxes in a cozy man cave with a nautical theme.

Of course you can join him just in time for the last quarter, the last round, the bottom of the ninth… whatever.  Because after a hard afternoon of shopping, you might need some sustenance yourself. Perhaps a steamed artichoke with their special spicy Bloody Mary?

Or, if you’re feeling adventurous… how ’bout a tequila-lime oyster shooter?

Wish You Were Here

photo_smallIt’s zero degrees in Chicago, but these lucky guests from Illinois and North Carolina are basking in balmy winter weather at the AT&T National Pro-Am in Pebble Beach.

It’s clear and sunny on the Monterey Peninsula this week, with daytime temperatures in the 60s… optimum weather to watch top golf professionals team with Hollywood celebrities, world-renowned musicians and captains of industry as they compete for a $6.4 million purse.

This year, three-time champ Phil Mickelson leads the pros, while celebs run the gamut from actors (Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell, Bill Murray), to comedians (Ray Romano, George Lopez), musicians (Kenny G, Michael Bolton), and sports figures (Drew Brees, Oscar de la Hoya, and surfing champ Kelly Slater).

The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is a 72-hole PGA TOUR golf championship dating back to the 1930s when Bing Crosby “gathered a few friends” to raise money for charity—and to have a little fun. Over 2000 volunteers have helped the Monterey Peninsula Foundation raise over $85 million for local charities to date.

If you were snowed in this year, give us a call—we’ll happily tee up accommodations for next year’s event, Feb. 6-12, 2012.

Valentine’s Day: Monterey Style

RomanticRoomDesigns.comCandy, jewelry and flowers are nice… but imagine following a trail of red silk rose petals to a bedroom lit by candlelight –  complete with long stemmed roses and strawberries dipped in chocolate!

That’s just one of the services offered by “Romantic Room Designs” for Valentine’s Day, honeymoons, anniversaries, proposals – or any occasion you want to make special.

Of course, you don’t have to spend a bundle to splurge on your sweetheart. Wake up early, pick up almond croissants from the Paris Bakery Cafe, and head to Lover’s Point in Pacific Grove  – one of the few places on the West Coast where you can watch the sun rise over the ocean.

And if you do need accommodations in the area, may we suggest a townhouse overlooking the Point with a picture postcard view?

Babymoons: Snuggle up to the Latest Travel Trend

sa4sw10-21

Babymoons” are the hottest new travel trend — “pre-baby” vacations (to give prospective parents time to relax and reconnect before birth) — or “post-baby” getaways (to give new families time to bond).

Of course, we’re in favor of any excuse to take a vacation on the Monterey Peninsula. If you have a bun in the oven (or even if you don’t) either of these two properties have “rest” and “relaxation” written all over them.

Stoke up the wood-burning fireplace, snuggle under a fluffy duvet, and enjoy the serene ocean views from this 3br/2ba Carmel cottage (just a short stroller ride to downtown Carmel and the beach).

master-bedroom-1

You might never leave the master bedroom of this charming, two bedroom Cape Cod bungalow. Decorated in cheery blue and yellow, with plush carpeting underfoot, the cozy master suite features a fireplace and French doors that open to a private sunbathing deck.

The living room, with walls of windows overlooking a lovely flower garden, is the perfect spot to watch a movie, listen to music — or sing lullabies.
